We launched the Roots & Shoots GenWild campaign in December 2024, a vital part of the globally recognized Jane Goodall Institute ForEver Wild initiative. This global effort focuses on protecting wildlife while promoting responsible ownership of companion animals, emphasizing the critical difference between pets and wild animals. Wild animals belong in their natural habitats, while pets deserve loving homes.
At the heart of the GenWild campaign is a message of respect and ethical choices. We are working to raise awareness about the dangers of keeping wild animals as pets and highlighting the importance of protecting their right to live freely in nature. We aim to:
Protect Wildlife: Raise awareness about the harm caused by trafficking wild animals for the pet trade. Wild animals should remain in their natural habitats, where they play crucial roles in maintaining healthy ecosystems.
Support Conservation Efforts: Advocate for preserving ecosystems and biodiversity, ensuring that future generations can experience the same awe-inspiring wildlife we enjoy today.
Through this campaign, we are not only aiming to raise awareness but also learning from young people participating in the Roots & Shoots program worldwide.
