In Romania, the Roots & Shoots group at the Save the Dogs sanctuary provides care for Tica, a blind and formerly abused donkey. Due to his disability, Tica often keeps his distance from the other donkeys. However, he receives love and care from a special group of visitors, the Roots & Shoots prison inmates from Poarta Alba. These compassionate individuals regularly visit the sanctuary, offering Tica much-needed affection by brushing, cuddling, and even dressing him warmly during the cold winter months. Thanks to their efforts, Tica continues to feel cherished and supported. This is a reminder that Roots & Shoots is a programme for anyone! Young and young at heart.

Meanwhile, Roots & Shoots Tanzania is making an incredible impact with its Donkey Welfare Project. By organizing donkey clinics in Tingatinga, Boma, and the Monduli area, they have helped over 1,500 donkeys and educated more than 6,000 community members on animal care and rights. These clinics offer a vital space for the community to learn about proper donkey welfare, ensuring these hardworking animals get the care they deserve.

Through these initiatives, Roots & Shoots continues to foster a culture of compassion and responsible animal care across both Romania and Tanzania, making a lasting difference for donkeys and the communities that rely on them.
