On 3 April, the global community came together to celebrate Dr. Jane Goodall’s birthday with a day of action. Her lifelong dedication to conservation, animal welfare, and youth empowerment continues to inspire millions—and this year, Roots & Shoots USA’s Chicago Basecamp made sure the celebration was as impactful as her legacy.
Roots & Shoots USA partnered with Forest Preserves of Cook County to host an event that brought people of all ages together.
Youth Panel: Voices of Change
A panel of Roots & Shoots members, including RSYC’s Marlee C., took the stage to share their ongoing projects.
Seed Ball Workshop: Nurturing Nature
Participants learned how to make seed balls, a simple yet effective way to protect seeds from wildlife while providing essential nutrients for growth.
Nature Walk: Reconnecting with the Earth
Inspired by Jane’s love for the forests of Gombe National Park, attendees enjoyed a calming walk through the local ecosystem.
And, of course, no celebration is complete without a treat! Mochinuts from Mochinut Lincoln Park added a delicious touch to the day.
This event was more than just a celebration—it was a reminder that Jane’s legacy continues through each of us. Every action, no matter how small, contributes to a larger movement of hope, conservation, and positive change.
