At Jane Goodall’s Roots & Shoots, we believe that creating a better world for people, animals, and the environment requires more than passion — it requires action, collaboration, and strong, lasting partnerships.
That’s why we are proud of our ongoing collaboration with DP World. Over recent years, DP World’s support has enabled the distribution of small grants that strengthen Roots & Shoots initiatives at local and regional levels
In Latin America and the Caribbean, this support has played a critical role in strengthening regional leadership, coordination, and collective action.
Through support from DP World, Roots & Shoots Argentina has sustained and strengthened a regional coordination team that supports Roots & Shoots groups across Latin America and the Caribbean. This investment has helped consolidate mentoring structures, strengthen communication, and support the long-term sustainability of 217 active Roots & Shoots groups across 18 countries.
By maintaining a coordination hub based in Argentina and strengthening country mentors in nine countries, the project has improved regional alignment while respecting the cultural and territorial diversity that defines the region.
DP World’s support has also expanded leadership training and capacity building across the region. Through initiatives such as the Environmental Leaders Course, the Hope in Action workshop, and ongoing mentor training, Roots & Shoots has provided accessible environmental education to youth, educators, and community leaders.

These trainings focus not only on environmental knowledge, but also on project planning, leadership skills, and collective action — equipping participants to drive meaningful change in their own communities.
One of the most inspiring outcomes of this project was the Naturalist Challenge, a regional citizen science initiative designed to engage groups across diverse territories and contexts. By focusing on arthropods — a taxonomic group present in all environments — Roots & Shoots created an inclusive activity that any group could join using simple tools.
Roots & Shoots groups organised observation walks in schools, parks, reserves, and rural communities across nine countries. Together, participants generated 4,566 biodiversity observations and identified 1,287 species, while strengthening observation skills, learning citizen science practices, and reinforcing a shared sense of regional purpose.
Across Latin America and the Caribbean, Roots & Shoots works with groups that include participants with disabilities and groups rooted in Indigenous communities. While engagement approaches vary depending on connectivity and geography, flexibility and respect for local realities remain central to the programme’s success.
By combining leadership development, regional collaboration, and inclusive participation, this project contributes directly to several of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, including Quality Education (SDG 4), Decent Work and Economic Growth (SDG 8), Reduced Inequalities (SDG 10), Climate Action (SDG 13), and Life on Land (SDG 15).
Together with DP World, Roots & Shoots is transforming regional collaboration into meaningful action — empowering people of all ages to turn hope into impact across Latin America and the Caribbean.

Our new Roots & Shoots classroom resource helps young people explore how everyday products connect to biodiversity and sustainability. Designed for primary school learners, it makes global supply chains easy (and fun!) to understand.
