Growing the Human Resources of Roots & Shoots Türkiye

Together, we can make a difference. Our partnership with DP World reflects a shared commitment to sustainability and empowerment. Since 2022, DP World has helped Roots & Shoots expand its reach through small grants, supporting Roots & Shoots teams worldwide to turn hope into action.

Thanks to this support, Roots & Shoots Türkiye has been able to reach more young changemakers across the country. The partnership between JGIG and DP World is all about empowering the next generation to take action for a more sustainable future by supporting the growth of Roots & Shoots programmes around the world.

The grant has helped Roots & Shoots Türkiye to:

Develop outreach strategies to increase awareness and engagement with Roots & Shoots — allowing them to reach more children, young people, and teachers across Türkiye.

Bringing on a part-time team member to offer better support to existing Roots & Shoots groups and respond to new project ideas from students and educators. In addition more educational materials have been distributed and creating opportunities for teachers to start and maintain Roots & Shoots at their schools.

Boost online presence with four virtual events and regular content on environmental issues and science through social media.

Run a variety of activities and events — from volunteer trainings and school Bioblitzes to biodiversity webinars and national conferences.

At a recent Bioblitz on a school campus, students explored local biodiversity through games and nature observation. A simple question about bats sparked a fun discussion on nocturnal animals and echolocation — reminding everyone how small outdoor moments can leave a lasting impression and inspire curiosity.

Through this project, Roots & Shoots Türkiye is not only reaching more young people but helping to build a stronger community. It also ties directly into several of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals — including quality education (SDG 4), decent work and economic growth (SDG 8), climate action (SDG 13), and life on land (SDG 15).
