Since 2022 Jane Goodall Institute Global has managed small internal grants that help Roots & Shoots offices and multinational teams expand their reach and impact, made possible by DP World.
Through this support, Roots & Shoots Argentina has played a pivotal role in a multi-national project to strengthen environmental education and youth empowerment across Latin America and the Caribbean.
During 2024, the support by DP World has helped grow Roots & Shoots in Latin America and Caribbean through:
• Launching a regional online course on ecological restoration, designed for Latin American environmental changemakers. Over 400 people across all ages from 15 countries gained knowledge and practical tools to restore ecosystems in their communities.
• Strengthening regional leadership by training tutors to coordinate and mentor over 160 Roots & Shoots groups across 15 countries. The project also identified and supported new country mentors in previously unsupported areas, to grow local action.
• Distributing more than 15 educational resources, including campaign toolkits, digital presentations for schools, and access to the “Community Ecological Restoration“ course.
• Hosting workshops and training sessions across the regions, including four virtual tutor training sessions and two group leader trainings
• Promote inclusivity by engaging youth and mentors from rural and underrepresented communities, with activities offered in Spanish to ensure accessibility.
The project’s focus on ecological restoration, leadership training, and inclusive participation has directly supported global goals such as:
By empowering people of all ages, strengthening multi-national networks, and promoting sustainable practices, the initiative contributes to breaking cycles of poverty and marginalisation in Latin America and the Caribbean. DP World’s Global Education Platform: Explore, Learn, and Act
