Roots & Shoots Indigenous Network – Connecting Youth for Climate Justice

Roots & Shoots Indigenous Network

At Jane Goodall’s Roots & Shoots, we believe that creating a better world for people, animals, and the environment requires more than passion — it requires action and strong partnerships.

That’s why we are proud of our collaboration with DP World, which has enabled the Global Roots & Shoots Indigenous Group, led by JGI Canada together with JGI Australia, to unite Indigenous youth from Canada, Papua New Guinea, Fiji, Australia, New Zealand, and Pacific Island nations to lead action for climate justice and community resilience.

Thanks to this support, the project has already achieved key milestones:

• Expanded Roots & Shoots into remote and underrepresented communities
• Utilized a solar-powered RACHEL server to bring digital learning to offline Indigenous communities
• Connected Indigenous youth globally for mentorship, shared climate knowledge, and collaborative action

From Vancouver Island’s Nuu-chah-nulth “Youth Warrior Family”, where young leaders are preserving cultural teachings and launching eco-tourism initiatives, to villages in Papua New Guinea, this project celebrates intergenerational resilience, land-rooted leadership models, and youth-led change.

Aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals:

SDG 4 – Quality Education
SDG 8 – Decent Work & Economic Growth
SDG 10 – Reduced Inequalities
SDG 13 – Climate Action
SDG 15 – Life on Land

Stay tuned for more updates as this global Indigenous network continues to grow and inspire action for a sustainable future.
