On October 16, 2025, Roots & Shoots Rwanda came together to honour the remarkable life and enduring legacy of Dr. Jane Goodall. Alongside Dr Jane’s son, Hugo Van Lawick, the event brought together Roots & Shoots members, partners from Dream Village, Dr. Allie Simmons, and Marc Bekoff, who joined virtually. Together, they shared stories and memories of Dr. Jane’s inspiring work for nature and her unwavering commitment to inspiring future generations.
As a tribute, a native tree was planted at Hugo’s home in her memory. A book of remembrance was also filled with heartfelt messages, reflecting on Dr. Jane’s lessons and pledging to continue her mission.
Dr. Jane Goodall’s legacy reminds us that each of us has a role to play in creating a better planet. Her words continue to resonate:
“Together we can, together we will, we must change the world.”
Roots & Shoots Rwanda, along with its partners, remains dedicated to advancing Dr. Jane’s vision of conservation, education, and community empowerment. Her belief in the power of collective action continues to inspire and guide those working toward a more sustainable future.
