After watching a documentary on the decline of bees, a 5th-grade class in Zurich was inspired to take action through their “Save the Bees” project. The students took hands-on measures to support local bee populations by building bee hotels, planting bee-friendly flowers, and even persuading the school administration to unseal parts of the school grounds to create better habitats for wild bees.
To further support their efforts, the students organized a charity run and bake sale, raising over 3,000 Swiss Francs. The funds will sponsor 1,000 square meters of flower strips, providing essential habitats and food sources for bees.
The class’s dedication to environmental stewardship serves as an inspiring example of how young people can make a meaningful impact on conservation efforts, contributing to the protection of vital pollinator species.
