Collin Mothupi was one of the 12 students who helped launch the very first Roots & Shoots group alongside Dr. Jane Goodall 35 years ago in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. His story reflects the roots of the movement and the enduring power of youth-led action.
At the Global Youth Retreat, 23 young leaders from 17 countries came together to share ideas, collaborate on projects, and strengthen their commitment to creating positive change for people, animals, and the planet.
Mazlume Rumeysa Lacin, a current Roots & Shoots member from Türkiye, represents the energy, creativity, and determination of today’s youth—showing how the movement continues to evolve and thrive with each new generation.
Dr. Zara Bending is a leading expert in combating the illegal wildlife trade and a passionate advocate for animal welfare. As a Roots & Shoots expert, she brings her knowledge and experience to inspire the next generation of conservation leaders.
